Mission & Vision

Our Mission:
To inspire and support underserved students to become STEM professionals.

Our Vision:
Students today – Technology leaders tomorrow.

What is STEM?

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - also known as STEM—drive our economy in the information age. Our lives are filled with STEM, from the design of our cars to the coding of smart phones. LET’S GO recognizes the importance of engaging students in these subjects early and continuously. With endless real world applications, informal STEM activities help students engage in project-based learning in a team environment, develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, and practice risk taking and perseverance while learning.

While there is a deficit of students from the United States entering STEM fields, the gap is most significant for minorities and girls. To prepare our students to succeed in the STEM job market, we need to not only spark their interest in STEM, but also to offer the support and encouragement to persevere in a rigorous STEM education.

Here are some important statistics about STEM:

  • 50 % of the scientists in America were not born in this country
  • 6 % of entering 9th grade students graduate from a 4 -year college with a STEM degree but less than 3.5 % of African American and Hispanic students achieve this end. It is estimated that .5% of low income, minority students from our inner cities graduate with a STEM degree at the Bachelors of Science level.
  • African American and Hispanic minorities and women are underrepresented in the STEM fields by more than 100%.
  • A graduate with a degree in Engineering is likely to make $65,000 the first year. High salaries and low unemployment exist in the STEM fields because the demand outstrips the supply.

Our Purpose

Founded in 2009 by Dr. Clark “Corky” Graham, LET’S GO Boys and Girls, Inc. (LET’S GO) set out to increase the number of STEM professionals from our urban underserved communities by engaging and supporting elementary and middle school students through the STEM education pipeline. We partner with schools and youth organizations interested in offering STEM to their students and provide the materials, training, and support necessary to implement fun, hands-on STEM curricular activities. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we focus our efforts on bringing high quality STEM programs into the hands of underserved students.

Our Students

LET’S GO believes that all students are capable of great success. While all of these students are capable of great success, too many lack the resources and support necessary to understand STEM as a viable career option and persevere through rigorous STEM coursework. LET’S GO is passionate about providing all students with hands-on access to STEM. Whether a student is learning about STEM for the first time or getting ready to enroll in STEM-based classes, we will work with Kindergarten through Grade 8 students to develop 21st Century Skills and make sure they are ready for today’s challenges.

To continue our support beyond middle school, LET’S GO works with highly engaged STEM students in high school and college through mentorships and internship opportunities.
