Baltimore FIRST LEGO League Teams Compete in the State Championships

On Saturday, February 23, LET’S GO’s three Baltimore based FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams competed in the State Championship, after having won at their regional competition.

They joined 80 teams of students ages 9-14 from all over Maryland. The teams faced this year’s challenge theme of “Into Orbit” head-on.

These young engineers designed, built and programmed a robot to complete a series of tasks during the Robot Game. They identified a physical or social problem faced by humans during long duration space exploration and proposed an innovative solution.

The Lakeland Builders designed “Spicezilla”, which would allow astronauts to have a taste of home.  The Westport Warriors created a virtual reality “Space Dancing” game to keep astronauts fit and entertained.  The Govans Dragon Designers created “Medic 2.0” to compound and dispense medications aboard space ships.

The teams were also judged on their “Core Values” and how well they worked as a team to accomplish goals. This was the first time at the State Championships for all three teams. Although they didn’t come home with trophies, these future engineers had an amazing experience, and most of all, had fun!
