Lakeland Elementary Middle in Baltimore City celebrated Black History Month with a STEAM Night. Families and community members worked side by side solving engineering challenges, learning about famous engineers and scientists, creating a terrarium and making extreme slime. LET’S GO hosted a station where youth designed a new playground for their community. Students made large slides, swings, a space ship climbing frame and tunnels to climb through. One young man stated, “I want a playground where I can climb and jump.” African American and Hispanic STEM pioneers were highlighted at each station. It was great opportunity for everyone to learn about different STEM careers and fields of study.
