Companies are not the only ones that benefit from branding. In an interactive workforce development seminar lead by Year Up, students learned the power of branding. After watching a video entitled “Two major keys to building your personal brand,” students created personal brand statements that reflected major keys from the video; including marketing oneself based on the audience. Students also discussed the importance of first impressions and code switching. Code switching refers to customizing ones style of speech to the audience being addressed.
LET’S GO has collaborated with Year Up to prepare students for the workplace, by offering 4 workforce development seminars that focus on strengthening nonverbal and verbal communication, professional appearance, and collaboration. Both LET’S GO and Year Up’s goal to empower undeserved youth is echoed in LET’S GO’s mission to “Break the cycle of poverty…” and Year Up’s mission to “Close the opportunity divide…” LET’S GO and Year Up, alike, believe youth need improved 21st century workforce skills to successfully participate in the global economy.
